Numerical Study on the Shear Stress Characteristics of Open-Channel Flow over Rough Beds

Bed shear stress is an important measure of benthic habitats since it related to many ecological processes. In this study, we focused on the fluctuating characteristics in rough-bed open-channel flows. The roughness element method was adopted mimic natural rough beds and Improved Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (IDDES) model used obtain comprehensive information about near bed. Three arrangement patterns elements were simulated compare their effects flow structure stresses. arrangements altered Reynold turbulent kinetic energy characteristics, due variance blockage lateral directions that led detachment changes directions. Quadrant analysis revealed spatial variations instantaneous burst events at different locations wake. By using spectrum analysis, accumulation shear-stress from small large vortex scales estimated, which effect significantly stronger than time-averaged stress, especially scales. results study suggest significance fluctuation part further studies
